National Buzz: 10

Total Score: 43

America’s team hasn’t been to the Super Bowl since 1993, where they drew some of the highest prices in the modern day Super Bowl market. The Cowboys huge, national and devoted fan base that travels coupled with a 24+ year drought and a short trip to a destination city in Miami easy puts the Cowboys at the top of the list.

Total Score: 40

Washington boasts big corporate dollars, a large passionate fan base used to paying big dollars (credit: Daniel Snyder), and a Super Bowl appearance drought longer than even the Cowboys. Miami would be a dream destination for the Washington faithful, who would return in droves to a winning team, and to ticket brokers. It’s just not going to happen this year.

National Buzz: 9

Total Score: 39

A staple on the list no matter the location. The Bears have a huge following who has driven up Super Bowl prices in the recent past. A 13 year drought and strong showing in 2018/19 brought high expectations to this season. The Bears have been to a recent Miami Super Bowl, losing to Peyton Manning’s Colts, and traveled as strong as anyone would think.

The Chiefs have one of the most vocal and loyal fanbases in the NFL. Coupled with a long drought, an exciting national superstar and a vacation destination in early February, the Chiefs make for a big Super Bowl ticket.

An NFL blue-blood, what the Steelers lack in local corporate spending they make up for in national interest and huge travel. Steelers fans travel big, spend big, are everywhere and have even boosted up a cold-weather game in Detroit. Anytime and anywhere, the Steelers boost a Super Bowl market and in Miami it would be more of the same as they showed up strong in Tampa Bay for a win over Kurt Warner’s Cardinals in 2009.

National Buzz: 6

Total Score: 32

My hometown Niners are the most interesting case this year. They have a huge and loyal fanbase, “The Faithful,” who are willing to travel, as they proved in 2013, but that game wasn’t as big as many thought it’d be and Miami is a much longer trip than New Orleans. Corporate and business dollars are falling out of trees in the Silicon Valley and are used to investing big as proven by the AT&T Park, Levi’s Stadium, and the Chase Center. The season has created excitement and the fans have already been traveling. Says here, it’d be a huge game – and a possible Superdome rematch with the Ravens

6. New York Giants

Appearance Drought: 8 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 10

Travel Index: 7

Drought Bonus: 0

Spend Index: 9

National Buzz: 6

Total Score: 32

Plenty of corporate spend used to higher priced tickets at MetLife (like anything in NY) and a dedicated following make the Giants a good draw but with the team in rebuilding mode, the fanbase hasn’t had time to build up an affiliation with this version of the G-Men to drive up prices. The Giants in Miami would always be a big draw in the future.

6. Green Bay Packers

Appearance Drought: 9 Yrs

The outlier. The Pack play in a city bereft of business yet have major corporate support from national brands tying to the legendary team. The fans don’t pay through the nose at Lambeau, but spend when they travel….and they travel. National interest is high with superstar QB Aaron Rodgers and the Pack are one of the NFL’s blue bloods always making for a good Super Bowl ticket, especially for those escaping the Midwest for sunny South Beach.

9. Philadelphia Eagles

Appearance Drought: 2 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 7

Travel Index: 8

Drought Bonus: 0

Spend Index: 6

National Buzz: 9

Total Score: 30

Loyal, raucous, rowdy fan base spread nationally who will travel, the Eagles will always make for a good ticket. Coming off an appearance in Minnesota two seasons ago brings them down a few spots but the Iggles will always be a draw and Miami is an easy and exciting getaway from the city of Brotherly Love in early Feb.

TicketManager | 2020 Super Bowl Ticket Power Rankings

10. Seattle Seahawks

Appearance Drought: 5 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 7

Travel Index: 8

Drought Bonus: 0

Spend Index: 7

National Buzz: 6

Total Score: 28

A perennial contender recently, the Hawks (and Sounders) benefit from no established NBA or NHL presence. Regular contention, a loud home crowd, and outspoken players raise the Hawks national presence and interest as does Russell Wilsons MVP candidacy. The fan base is as loyal as any and travels well, as proven in two cold-weather Super Bowls. Location in Miami is not great as it is cross country. The Seahawks were one half of the 2015 Super Bowl ticket meltdown which changed ticketing and we’d see a similar situation this year if they were to rematch the Pats due to team affiliations.

TicketManager | 2020 Super Bowl Ticket Power Rankings

10. Minnesota Vikings

Appearance Drought: 43 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 6

Travel Index: 6

Drought Bonus: 5

Spend Index: 6

National Buzz: 5

Total Score: 28

A rabid fan base who, though they don’t travel as well as others, would travel for this game to escape Minny for South Beach. Corporate support for the team locally has been solid and the new digs have acclimated fans to the new normal in high priced NFL entertainment. The national buzz would be around the lovable losers angle and make a good story worth watching, we just don’t think it would sell tickets to the casual (yet wealthy) fan. It would be an okay ticket right down the middle.

10. New York Jets

Appearance Drought: 51 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 7

Ah the Jets. Some brokers say they’d be an absolute monster. Others say they’re little brother and won’t spend like big blue fans. This won’t be the year we find out. Plenty of corporate support, a good fan base who will travel, and a long wait would make for a decent, but not blockbuster game. Darnold needs some time to get on the national radar.

13. Houston Texans

Appearance Drought: 18 Yrs (Not Counting the Oilers)

Corporate Dollars: 8

Travel Index: 4

Drought Bonus: 3

National Buzz: 6

Total Score: 26

Texans fans are rabid, but the Cowboys stronghold hasn’t yet been broken. What’s often overlooked? Houston has more major presence of Fortune 500 companies than anywhere but New York City. Miami isn’t as appealing to Texans fans as a game in Dallas or New Orleans but the first time for any team with a good following generally does pretty well.

13. New England Patriots

Appearance Drought: Returning

Corporate Dollars: 8

Travel Index: 8

Drought Bonus: -8

Spend Index: 8

National Buzz: 10

Total Score: 26

Once a top five on this list, they’ve spent all their once-in-a-lifetime money for quite awhile with nine recent trips and another win last year. Plenty of corporate money and a ton of national interest means the Pats will always deliver a good ticket. They were even part of the market explosion in 2015. Miami is an easy and alluring trip for what could be the last hurrah (we’ve been saying that for year), and is far superior to Minnesota in February as a destination where the Pats held that market up and healthy.

15. Denver Broncos

Appearance Drought: 4 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 6

Travel Index: 7

Drought Bonus: 0

Spend Index: 7

National Buzz: 5

Total Score: 25

Broncos fans are rabid, loyal, and willing to travel. Businesses in Denver are used to paying a premium at Mile High. Recent appearances in New York and San Francisco make it less once-in-a-lifetime for Broncos faithful and the teams recent hardships have lessened appeal.

TicketManager | 2020 Super Bowl Ticket Power Rankings

16. Buffalo Bills

Appearance Drought: 26 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 3

Travel Index: 9

Drought Bonus: 3

Spend Index: 4

National Buzz: 5

Total Score: 24

The Bills mafia is frothing at the mouth to spend big bucks at the Super Bowl after a twenty six year drought. Not a lot of corporate dollars in western NY but the story of their fanbase is catching on nationally and who wouldn’t want to escape a Buffalo winter for a game in Miami? The fans will be there. The question is: Will they spend?

National Buzz: 6

Total Score: 24?

Come on Browns. Your fans need you. And they’d travel. Who knows on the rest. National interest would be high but not in a “displaced Browns fan” way, more in a “we want to watch Cinderella win” way. And that doesn’t sell too many tickets. We have no idea where to put the Browns, so they’re here at #20.

18. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have plenty of corporate support in Mercedes Benz Stadium but the team is having a lackluster season. Miami is a near perfect location for the Falcons, but this isn’t their year.

19. New Orleans Saints

Appearance Drought: 10 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 2

Travel Index: 4

Drought Bonus: 1

Spend Index: 4

National Buzz: 10

Total Score: 21

The Saints have been to and won a Super Bowl in Miami recently (2010) and have been a contender building up interest for years. The lack of corporate dollars in New Orleans, one of the smallest in markets, makes it an above average ticket instead of a monster.

TicketManager | 2020 Super Bowl Ticket Power Rankings

20. Baltimore Ravens

Appearance Drought: 7 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 6

Travel Index: 4

Drought Bonus: 0

Spend Index: 5

National Buzz: 4

Total Score: 19

The success of the Ravens works against them as they’ve been to, and won, recent Super Bowls. The team does a fantastic job of garnering corporate support and has a strong fanbase who traveled well to Tampa for the 2001 Super Bowl. Lamar Jackson is a budding superstar drawing national interest. Their schedule has them playing most of their likely opponents should they make it.

A young with a raucous atmosphere at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The local business ecosystem is growing and they support the Titans well and the game is an easy trip. Fans travel well and they haven’t been in awhile….now if only the national coverage caught up.

22. Detroit Lions

Appearance Drought: 54

Corporate Dollars: 5

Travel Index: 2

Drought Bonus: 5

Spend Index: 3

National Buzz: 2

Total Score: 17

Always an interesting discussion, the Lions haven’t been to a Super Bowl, have some pretty well defined corporate support, yet have a fan base that just doesn’t travel well. They’re lovable losers in national coverage, just not as lovable as the Bills, Browns, and Vikings. Says here it’d be a pretty weak ticket.

TicketManager | 2020 Super Bowl Ticket Power Rankings

23. Indianapolis Colts

Appearance Drought: 10 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 4

Travel Index: 5

Drought Bonus: 1

Spend Index: 5

National Buzz: 1

Total Score: 16

The revitalized Colts travel well and are coming off some down years, leading to more team support if they can be a winner this season. Average corporate support and a willing fan base acclimated to higher end events. Their last two trips had large national interest (read: Peyton Manning) which wouldn’t exist this year but they’ve been to and won a Super Bowl in South Florida in the past 15 years.

TicketManager | 2020 Super Bowl Ticket Power Rankings

24. Cincinnati Bengals

Appearance Drought: 31 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 2

Travel Index: 3

Drought Bonus: 5

Spend Index: 3

National Buzz: 1

Total Score: 14

The Bengals have a decent fan following and some corporate support but don’t have the national buzz, traveling power, and big money following to drive much of a ticket currently, even in a destination city. The team is out of contention this year and already looking at future years.

TicketManager | 2020 Super Bowl Ticket Power Rankings

24. Carolina Panthers

Appearance Drought: 4 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 5

Travel Index: 3

Drought Bonus: 0

Spend Index: 4

National Buzz: 2

Total Score: 14

The Panthers have a good fan following and a much stronger corporate base in Charlotte than outsiders believe. The recent appearance in San Francisco hurts their demand and the brand just isn’t a national draw but Miami is an easy trip. The Panthers would make for a sub average ticket price.

The Jags do great with Corporate sponsors the downside is Jacksonville doesn’t have a lot of business to pull from. They have great fans, but national interest is still building in the young team.

Corporate Dollars: 10

National Buzz: 2

Total Score: 13

A new team in a new city without a real home. The Rams may eventually build into a big draw and will host the game in 2021 but, as of now, the national appeal and local dollars haven’t marinated enough and that showed last year. The biggest hope for a big ticket is a home game next year. (5 point deduction for recent move)

27. Oakland Raiders

Appearance Drought: 17 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 0

Travel Index: 5

Drought Bonus: 2

National Buzz: 3

Total Score: 13

Once a staple of NFL national interest, the Raiders still carry with them a rabid fan base that travels which would surprise at a Super Bowl. That fan base, however, doesn’t spend big and didn’t in their last appearance  in local San Diego. It will take a few years in Las Vegas to change the Raiders power ranking.

TicketManager | 2020 Super Bowl Ticket Power Rankings

29. Miami Dolphins

Appearance Drought: 35 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 3

Travel Index: 2

Drought Bonus: 5

Spend Index: 3

National Buzz: 2

Total Score: 12

The Dolphins are an interesting case. They have loyal fans, but they struggle with attendance. There is some corporate support but the South Florida market has proven finnicky in all sports. They host so many Super Bowls the allure of a vacation somewhere else is non-existent as Miami has hosted five Super Bowls since participating in one in California. Says here they wouldn’t be a big draw but we won’t find out this year anyways (-3 points).

30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Appearance Drought: 17 Yrs

National Buzz: 1

Total Score: 10

Tampa hosts so many Super Bowls the pomp and circumstance isn’t exactly once-in-a-lifetime for their fans. The team struggles with corporate support and isn’t a large national presence. One could easily deduct points from Tampa and Miami as they host the game so often and are a destination in themselves which hurts the allure. If you live in Tampa, you’ve seen the Super Bowl come through town (-3 points).

Total Score: 9

Light on corporate spend with a more transient fanbase, the die-hards of the Cards aren’t enough to make them a big ticket. The best hope for a Cards pop is a home game in Glendale. Miami is not an easy destination nor does it hold the warm weather allure as Phoenix is a warm climate. The young Cardinals are already looking at next year.

32. Los Angeles Chargers

Appearance Drought: 3 Yrs

Corporate Dollars: 2

Travel Index: 1

Drought Bonus: 0

Spend Index: 0

National Buzz: 0

Total Score: 3

The Chargers are struggling locally to get a foothold in Los Angeles and have little national interest. Unfortunately, the Chargers would pose a serious business problem for the NFL if they made the Super Bowl this year, especially on the opposite coast.

The scale is as follows:

  • Drought Bonus: A long period between Super Bowl appearances, or a lack of Super Bowl wins, can drive prices higher as fans and businesses will pay more for the “once in a lifetime” opportunity
  • Corporate Dollars: The support teams get economically from businesses buying suites, club seats, tickets, and sponsorships. Local business is usually the core driver with a few exceptions (Pittsburgh, Green Bay, etc)
  • Spend Index: Different local economies and different fan bases have different spending habits. Many times, big cities with new stadiums have fans and businesses acclimated to spending more or with more discretionary income. The spend index is the measure of a fan bases willingness to spend on the next Super Bowl the team participates in.
  • Travel Index: Some teams have fans who travel well. Some don’t. The traveling fanbases drive prices up. The travel index measures the willingness to travel to the next appearance and not how well they would travel to repeated future appearances
  • National Buzz: Superstars and teams with national followings drive casual buyers. Teams with a number of relocated fans or who have national followings sell well
